Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013. The 1979 Act established KEMRI as a National body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya. The corporation invites qualified and interested candidates to apply for the below vacant posts:

Research Assistant – Kisumu

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct recruitment, screening, and informed consent activities for the study
  • Administer quantitative questionnaires at the health facilities
  • Actively follow up participants.
  • Timely Data entry of study information collected from participants
  • Respond to data queries
  • Work with the study data manager/coordinator to ensure accurate data collection and entry
  • Understand the study design and objectives to assist in the successful implementation of the study

Vacancy Requirements:

  • Diploma in Social Sciences; Social Work, Public Health, Anthropology or Community Development.

Data Analyst – Kisumu

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop rigorous analysis strategies for abstracts, manuscripts, and program evaluation activities. Authorship as part of these analysis activities.
  • Apply complex statistical techniques and methods in the processing and analysis of data
  • Directly supervise and mentor the Statistician
  • Develop and implement program tracking databases in support of program evaluation activities
  • Organize and direct the study design, data collection, processing, analysis and publication of statistical data on various subject matter relevant to the YIA Oncology study
  • Support investigators to operationalize research goals, refine statistical hypotheses, develop statistical analysis plans and explain statistical implications of results.
  • Merge data across databases and check for data inconsistencies and outliers using STATA
  • Clean and edit complex medical record data for analysis
  • Generate data reports on program activities, both routine and as requested
  • Document methodologies and procedures used in the compilation and analysis of data, as well as data sources and limitations of estimates and guidelines for their use
  • Provide advice on sample size calculation
  • Provide advice on the statistical interpretation and implications of results for program planning and decision-making
  • Prepare tables, figures, results, and statistical methods narratives for abstracts and publications

Vacancy Requirements:

  • Strong academic qualifications in Biostatistics/Statistics or Applied Mathematics as evidenced by possession of at least a Degree from a recognized University
  • At least 4 years’ experience in statistical work at the professional level, preferably in a healthcare setting
  • Advance level knowledge of statistical software: SAS and/or STATA data management is required
  • In-depth, comprehensive, and evolving knowledge of statistical and mathematical analysis techniques integrated with computer applications
  • Demonstrated expertise in the following techniques is required: logistic and linear regression, mixed model, longitudinal data analyses, interrupted time series analyses, factor analyses, complex survey sample analyses, survival analyses, missing imputation, bootstrapping
  • Fluency in English

Finance Intern

Key Responsibilities:

  • Imprest reconciliation
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Tracking expenditure
  • Prepare variance reports
  • Monitor & ensure payments for vendors are actualized
  • Management of Asset register
  • Inventory management
  • Procurement and tracking of supplies
  • Review of imprest surrenders from the field
  • Cheque writing and banking

Vacancy Requirements:

  • Must have graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, (Finance/Accounting option), Business Administration or equivalent, CPA (II) or ACCA level (I)
  • Strong analytical ability, planning, and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with multi-skilled teams.

Data Analyst – Nairobi

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in design of data collection tools and data capture applications as required;
  • Design and manage databases and data entry/capture procedures;
  • Ensure accurate and complete data download/upload from data collection devices used i.e mobile phones, netbooks and tablets;
  • Collate, query and clean data streaming in from the field sites and routinely flagging out inconsistencies and / or errors arising from data obtained from the field;
  • Perform various data manipulations, analyses and generate reports and tables as requested;
  • Participate in developing data analysis plans in consultation with the study investigators;
  • Participate in data retrieval and manuscript writing/dissemination;
  • Deal with routine problems arising in the course of data handling;
  • Perform additional duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Vacancy Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or any related field from a recognized training institution
  • Knowledge of Visual Basic® and other programming languages in the NET environment will be an added advantage.

Research Administrator – Isiolo County

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and supervise the implementation of all surveillance activities at various levels including household, environmental and health facility levels;
  • Ensure availability of requisite study supplies and materials at all times;
  • Serve as the point of contact and principal source of information on study matters and deliverables for the site; and produce regular progress reports as required;
  • Develop and design local training for project staff in collaboration with the study investigators
  • Work with scientific staff to ensure collection of high-quality data;
  • Work with other investigators to conceptualize and develop analytical plans for various data;
  • Provide study updates and liaise with relevant sub-county and county health management teams, MOH heads, opinion leaders and community advisory boards;
  • Work with project leads to contribute in the analysis of scientific results
  • Submit periodic reports of project status to the project team while identifying gaps and areas requiring further strengthening.

Vacancy Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: – Biomedical Sciences, MedicalSciences, Public Health, any relevant Social Science or equivalent qualifications from arecognized institution;
  • Good analytical skills and experience of using at least one statistical package such as R or STATA
  • Have an in-depth understanding of Good Clinical Practice principles.
  • Must be willing to reside in the study area
  • Ability to work independently and proactively;
  • Ability to work with flexibility on several tasks simultaneously;
  • Communication skills;
  • Demonstrated maturity and capacity to navigate a complex environment and respond to shifting and fluid priorities

Study Clinician/Clinical Officer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collection of data
  • Clinical examination and provide care and treatment to Persons Living with HIV
  • Support counseling as needed
  • HIV Counseling and Testing
  • Participate in screening, enrolment and follow up of study participants
  • Participate in general research and study specific seminars, awareness drives and educational activities.
  • Generate and draft clinical/ study reports as may be required
  • Documentation of study procedures and findings
  • Contribute to dissemination of research findings
  • Supporting in training and capacity building activities for the team in the implementation of their roles and responsibilities.

Vacancy Requirements:

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from a recognized institution
  • Be registered by the Clinical Officers Council
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with direct involvement in patient care especially in HIV Care and treatment
  • Reproductive health knowledge and skills is an added advantage.
