The 2024 placement results unveiled by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) have shown a higher enrollment of male students compared to their female counterparts securing spots in universities for degree programs.

This disclosure was made during the release of the placement results at the College of Insurance on Tuesday.

KUCCPS CEO, Agnes Mercy Wahome, remarked that male applicants have consistently dominated placements into degree programs, a trend persisting since the inception of the central placement system.

Conversely, a majority of female students found placements in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs from the 2020/2021 cycle to the present.

Another notable highlight from the 2024 placement was the significant interest garnered by the Bachelor of Education program, attracting the highest number of applicants.

KUCCPS highlighted that 85 percent of 2023 KCSE candidates with a grade of C+ and above applied for various courses.

Among these applicants, 76.2 percent opted for degree programs while the remaining percentage opted for diploma courses (11,991 applicants).

During the 2023 KCSE Examination, a total of 899,453 candidates sat for the examination, providing a substantial pool for course applications.

CEO Agnes Mercy Wahome also mentioned that placement results for the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) were released to institutions earlier than those for universities and TVETs.

KMTC conducted its intake for new students in March, necessitating the early release of placement results to facilitate admissions.

Similarly, TVET placement data was released to TVET institutions to aid their May admissions.

Wahome emphasized that the placement process is guided by the Placement Policy and Processing Procedure, which takes into account factors such as the applicant’s preferences, academic qualifications, and the approved capacities of institutions.

Furthermore, affirmative action measures are implemented to ensure fair representation, particularly for gender, persons with disabilities, and marginalized regions.
