The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is inviting applications for the roles of Quantitative and Qualitative Field Interviewers for its project focused on understanding the relationship between childcare and brain function using neuroimaging techniques.

The project employs a mixed-methods approach to measure the association between child stimulation and cognitive function. Below are the details and qualifications for each role:

Quantitative Field Interviewers

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Mobilize study participants according to study guidelines.
  • Conduct in-person interviews following the provided questionnaire and protocols.
  • Ensure accurate and complete data collection, maintaining confidentiality.
  • Edit and submit data for daily cross-checking and verification.
  • Submit daily field reports and timesheets accurately and promptly.
  • Attend all training sessions and progress meetings.
  • Handle all study tools and equipment responsibly.
  • Assist with other project-related activities as needed.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • KCSE with a minimum grade of C Plain or equivalent.
  • Fluency in Swahili and English, both written and oral.
  • Experience with electronic data collection methods like SurveyCTO or ODK is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be a resident of Nairobi City, Kisumu, or Nakuru Counties.
  • Adherence to data collection protocols and ethical conduct.
  • Previous experience in conducting quantitative interviews.

Qualitative Field Interviewers

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate qualitative interviews with various stakeholders.
  • Record interviews, take notes, and compile comprehensive debriefing notes.
  • Participate in debrief discussions and exploration of ideas.
  • Prepare data collection progress updates and reports.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor and project manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree in Early Childhood Development or a relevant discipline.
  • Previous experience in conducting qualitative interviews.
  • Proficient in English and Kiswahili (verbal and written).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Available to provide translation clarification if needed.
  • Must be a resident of Nairobi City, Kisumu, or Nakuru Counties.
